Tips for Immediate Action
- Make personal safety your first priority. Remember, windows may be broken and high winds may have knocked down trees and power lines.
- Look for broken glass, sharp objects and live wires.
- Wear proper shoes and gloves.
- Don’t use rain-soaked electrical equipment.
What To Do
- Immediately call Vintage Reconstruction at 210-492-4171 – we are the Texas RESTORATION EXPERTS and we can help you through your crisis.
- If water is clean, remove as much as possible by mopping and blotting, then use fans to circulate the air and assist drying until help arrives.
- Lift draperies off the wet carpet, loop through a coat hanger, and place the hanger on the drapery rod.
- Prop up wet furniture cushions for even drying and place small wood blocks or aluminum foil under all furniture legs.
- Wipe all furniture dry.
- Remove wet area rugs or other floor coverings.
- If affected, open furniture drawers, closet doors, and luggage to enhance drying.
- Move photos, paintings, and art objects to a safe, dry location.
- Remove wet fabrics and dry them as soon as possible. Hang furs and leather goods to dry separately at room temperature.
- Remove damp books from shelves and spread out to dry.
- If damage occurs during a cool season, leave heat on; if in summer, use an air conditioner if available.
What Not To Do
- If at all possible, do NOT finalize the reconstruction process with your insurance company without consulting with a professional water damage restoration company first! Not all damage may be visible, and you need the help of a professional to make sure you will be returning to a “before” condition.
- Do not use an ordinary household vacuum to remove water.
- Do not use any electrical appliances while on wet carpet or wet floors.
- Do not go into rooms with standing water if the electricity is still on.
- Do not lift any tacked-down carpet (regular wall-to-wall carpet) without professional assistance as the incorrect lifting of this type of carpet could promote shrinkage and delaminating.
- Do not wait to call Vintage Reconstruction at 210-492-4171 for professional help.
