Tips for Immediate Action

  1. Make personal safety your first priority. Remember, windows may be broken and high winds may have knocked down trees and power lines.
  2. Look for broken glass, sharp objects and live wires.
  3. Wear proper shoes and gloves.
  4. Don’t use rain-soaked electrical equipment.

What To Do

  1. Immediately call Vintage Reconstruction at 210-492-4171 – we are the Texas RESTORATION EXPERTS and we can help you through your crisis.
  2. If water is clean, remove as much as possible by mopping and blotting, then use fans to circulate the air and assist drying until help arrives.
  3. Lift draperies off the wet carpet, loop through a coat hanger, and place the hanger on the drapery rod.
  4. Prop up wet furniture cushions for even drying and place small wood blocks or aluminum foil under all furniture legs.
  5. Wipe all furniture dry.
  6. Remove wet area rugs or other floor coverings.
  7. If affected, open furniture drawers, closet doors, and luggage to enhance drying.
  8. Move photos, paintings, and art objects to a safe, dry location.
  9. Remove wet fabrics and dry them as soon as possible. Hang furs and leather goods to dry separately at room temperature.
  10. Remove damp books from shelves and spread out to dry.
  11. If damage occurs during a cool season, leave heat on; if in summer, use an air conditioner if available.

What Not To Do

  1. If at all possible, do NOT finalize the reconstruction process with your insurance company without consulting with a professional water damage restoration company first! Not all damage may be visible, and you need the help of a professional to make sure you will be returning to a “before” condition.
  2. Do not use an ordinary household vacuum to remove water.
  3. Do not use any electrical appliances while on wet carpet or wet floors.
  4. Do not go into rooms with standing water if the electricity is still on.
  5. Do not lift any tacked-down carpet (regular wall-to-wall carpet) without professional assistance as the incorrect lifting of this type of carpet could promote shrinkage and delaminating.
  6. Do not wait to call Vintage Reconstruction at 210-492-4171 for professional help.
